New dreams on the horizon….

Thanks for checking out my site.  There’s a new look and feel on the blog and I’m so excited to share with you all that GOD has been doing in my life.

My BFF Vicki Hagadorn and I have been working closely with people for the last decade.  Through Grief Recovery classes, Retreats, Workshops, personal coaching and mentoring we knew that we wanted to do something to help encourage, empower, and equip people to live out their calling.  We didn’t quite know how or what it would look like but we knew God was stirring our souls for something BIG!

First, we asked God to give us a name that when you heard it, you knew exactly what it was about.  We didn’t want to have to explain it.  We thought of many, many names and they were all taken.  I prayed specifically for God to give us a name and he gave us “Get Inspired Movement“!  It was perfect!  We checked to see if it was available and sure enough, it was!  Luckily, my husband is an amazing, talented web designer, photographer, and director, etc…he does it all and we needed it all!  Erik was able to build us a site and get all our social media pages done!  Now, we still had NO idea what and/or how this was all going to work,  all we knew was that we had some great dreams for the future.  Well, let’s just say God had other plans.

On Sunday, October 12th I was in the middle of church service and I just so happen to get on facebook:)  Shhhh… don’t tell my pastor!  For some reason, I looked at my messages and there was a message on there from August 7th from a friend in LA introducing me to an inspiring young lady named Jen Bricker.  When I clicked on the video, I realized who this woman was!  I saw a segment on 20/20 about her incredible life a few years ago!  So what does any normal person do!?!?  I emailed her and said…

“Hi Jen,
I want to let you know that we’re having an event in Austin, TX in January and we want you to be our keynote speaker!”

To my surprise, she emails back immediately…

“Hi there, I happen to be speaking in Austin, TX this weekend, maybe we can connect for coffee!”

By Thursday night, Vicki and I are having dinner with her talking about our event!!!

Having Dinner with Jen Bricker!

Having Dinner with Jen Bricker!

Of course, when I told Vicki about what I did, she was ready to strangle me…”YOU did WHAT!?!? you mean this January!?  Like in a few months???”  We looked at our schedule and the only weekend in January that would work would be January 31st.  That was our secret prayer.  If Jen was available and willing to do it, then we would go ahead and plan the event.  Well, after talking to Jen, she loved the idea and totally supported us and encouraged us.  After looking at her schedule, the only time she could do it was the weekend on January 31st!!!

My friend mentioned checking out the Renaissance Hotel.  I emailed them the very next morning and they replied back that all the weekends in January were booked.  Marilyn, the events manager called me about two hours later and was wondering if we were flexible on the times because they did have an opening from 9-4pm on January 31st!!!  What!?  That’s crazy!  Especially since this ballroom holds 1400 people and is way out of our league and budget!!!

The Gorgeous Renaissance Hotel!

The Gorgeous Renaissance Hotel!

We knew the Renaissance was a little too much for us to handle, okay a lot to handle!!! LOL!  So we came to our senses and found a nice small theater close to downtown.  It held 500 people and the cost was very affordable.  The risk was smaller and it was a much safer choice.  Well, we called and left messages to book the theater all week and no one ever got back to us.  Marilyn from the Renaissance Hotel kept calling us and was so excited about our event.  At the very least, if we didn’t have the event at her hotel, she wanted to attend our event.

We had a staff meeting and we talked about what all our options were for venues.  My husband Erik reminded us, “God already told you it was the Renaissance, you’re just not listening!”  We really wanted to create a nice intimate atmosphere and have the seats set up theater style, but we had the problem of breaking for lunch and not wanting people to have to eat with a plate on their lap.  So we thought, the only way it would work at the Renaissance is if we could have one room where we can hold the event and then we can break for lunch in a separate room.  It seemed like a long shot but that was my secret prayer.  I would ask Marilyn If we were able to set it up that way,  and if we could, then that was the sign! We’re supposed to have it there! So the next day, Vicki and I made an appointment to finally meet up with Marilyn.  We walked in to the Renaissance and it was absolutely breathtaking!  It’s GORGEOUS!  We walked in and there were white, empty screens on the wall.  On one of the screens, the word “inspire” just kept scrolling across the screen.  At first I thought I was seeing things, but sure enough, it was there.  Hmmmm….is that a sign???  We walked into the first ballroom and it’s set up with round tables and chairs.  Marilyn proceeds to tell us that she has the perfect plan on how to make our event work.  They have a huge dinner booked that evening so they needed to have all the tables and chairs set up in one room. Then she walked us in to a bigger ballroom where we had the flexibility to arrange the seating plan.  WHAT!?!  We didn’t even have to ask.  She offered to set it up that way!  When I looked at the room, I was reminded of a dream I had the night before.  I dreamt that we were having the conference in that very room, in my dream there were big columns in the middle of the room and I asked Marilyn to stand up so we could acknowledge her and thank her for making it happen for us.  In my dream Marilyn had short blondish bob and was wearing a black blazer.  She looked exactly like the woman in my dream! At this point, I’m totally overwhelmed and had to excuse myself to go to the bathroom to pull myself together.  I knew what this meant, we had to step out on faith and rent out the Renaissance and pray that we could get hundreds of people to this event.  God was making it very clear that HE wanted this to happen, all we had to do was obey.  After talking to Marilyn and getting to know her, it was clear that God sent us to meet her because we NEEDED her.  Her faith was so strong and so supportive of our event.  She reminded us that God was going to bless this event and that he was already preparing many people to come be impacted by this movement.

So here we are,  days away from a HUGE event that we are putting together by faith!  We are so excited because we KNOW that anything that happens will be because of God’s power, not ours.  It’s so audacious, and big, and crazy that it’s only going to happen with GOD!!!  So please join us in prayer and share this event with everyone you know.  We are planning an incredible event with singers, dancers, inspiring speakers, and an awesome lunch.  Thank you for being a part of our journey!  This truly would not be happening without you!!!

Journey to Wholeness Retreat Re-Cap!

What an amazing time we had last weekend.  We had a group of women from all walks of life come together for an intimate time of reflecting, dancing, eating, and getting pampered.  For a lot of us, this was the first time ever meeting each other.  By the end of the weekend, you would have thought that we’ve known each other for twenty years!  We didn’t want to leave and the transformation on everyone’s faces was evident!  Everyone looked refreshed and rejuvenated.

One of the main inspirations for creating these weekend retreats was to help create a place for women to come and be themselves.  I wanted to cultivate a safe, non-judgmental environment for women to come and be heard, to share their hearts, and to be able to decompress.  We can be so busy sometimes and we don’t have the opportunity to slow down and just be still.  In those still moments, we can get in touch with what we’re really feeling and be able to share it in a place of love and empathy.

Our breakout star of the weekend was Nickey Robin!  Nickey served us tirelessly in the kitchen and bestowed all her incredible knowledge on nutrition and healthy eating.  We seriously feasted on amazing food all weekend!!!  We are so excited to be selling her cook book, “It’s Delicious!  With Nickalicious!”  You can pre-order here….BUY IT NOW!

Of course, there’s no way I could have done this alone!  I had great support and encouragement from amazing women who gave their hearts and trusted me in this process.  I am forever grateful for all of you!  You know who you are!!!  Every single person who came to the retreat came to give and serve and honestly, that’s why it went so awesome!  It was a team effort and we all benefited from it.

I applaud all the women who attended and took the time to invest in their whole being.  We definitely focused on our mind, body, and spirit.  We cried, laughed, had massages, ate a ton, and built long lasting, bonding friendships.  It was an unforgettable time and I can’t wait to do it again!

I’m so honored to be partnered with Vicki Hagadorn.  Vicki is a certified Grief Recovery Counselor and will be hosting workshops very soon.  The greatest gift you can give yourself is to make the investment in your personal and spiritual growth.  Check out her site here…

Lastly, it’s so cool to have my very own quote on their website:)  I share this after each class and I truly believe in this.  Here’s our mantra for the day!!!

“I Hate Yoga”

I Hate Yoga!

Yes you read that correctly. We live in a culture where we are conditioned to LOVE everything and if something is hard, we just move on and do something else that makes us feel good. Instead of dealing with conflicts or challenges, we just delete and un-friend people from our lives.

In relationships, we easily discard the ones that have issues.  Just look at the divorce rate. When it’s hard, just give up. That is what our culture is teaching us. There are many options and it’s easier to quit and do something that will make us feel good. When I have a tough yoga class, (and I often do) I want to quit! I can easily do other types of workouts, Pilates, barre, dance, tai chi, cross fit, zumba, etc…when something doesn’t work out, there’s always something else.

In my yoga class this week, about twelve minutes in, I was done! I was challenged and I wanted to leave. In my mind, I was battling. “What am I doing here? I hate this!” I have a love/hate relationship with yoga. Although in the moment, I hate it, I love who I’ve become in the process. Yoga teaches me surrender, patience, self love, non judgement, how to overcome fear, perseverance, self acceptance, all in about seven breaths. All of 30 seconds! In the moment that I was ready to bolt out of class, I learned how to persevere through the tough pose. Before you know it, we were back in child’s pose. Ahhhhh…

I confess, I want to be good at everything. I don’t like not being good at something. You can’t fake yoga, you either have the pose or you don’t. The frustrating part is that one day you may have the pose perfectly and the next time you do it, you’re falling all over the place. Yoga keeps me on my toes:) but isn’t that real life? You have victories and successes one day and then you fail miserably the next day, sometimes in the same hour! The lesson is how to fail gracefully. How to breathe through the rough moments of life. How do we respond when the going gets tough. I know it sounds trivial that I’m learning these important life lessons from yoga but this is a place where I know I will learn some of these important tools even if it’s just for one hour a week.  It’s one thing to know it in my mind and mentally understand it, it’s a whole other ball game when you can physically experience it in your practice.

Persevering through the pose doesn’t guarantee that I’ll get the pose perfectly next time. That’s why it’s called yoga practice, not yoga perfect:) That’s not the goal. For me, the goal is who I am becoming during that pose. How was I mentally, emotionally, spiritually? The physical practice is not the point.  The physical accomplishment is just a by-product of the practice.

So as you go about your day today, be mindful. What do you hate? What do you do during those moments? Whether it’s traffic, an unpleasant work environment, family drama, teenagers, tumultuous relationships, unemployment, financial problems, etc… How do you get through these moments? Do you drink to “take the edge off”, do you go off and unleash your anger, do you give in and overindulge in food or other substances, do you just check out and give up, play on your smart phone or computer? No matter what your default is, fight to stay present. Feel the emotions, breathe through it. This too shall pass. Let the moment teach you something, otherwise, it will keep coming back until you learn it.  That is the TRUTH!

Let us embody what surrender and peace looks like. Enjoy the process my friends. Persevere through the tough moments in life and love who you become because of it!

Day 20 & 21 of Clean Eating Challenge!

Day 20 & 21

I’m so proud of you guys! All the hard work, dedication and commitment are paying off.  You have persevered and made the investment to become a better you.  I hope you have learned a lot and have created new habits that will last a lifetime!  This is just the beginning!  Keep it going!

1.  Saturday- Family fun day!  Incorporate your friends and family for a fun activity!  Remember, they’re watching you.  Be a great example! Whatever you decide to do today, make sure it’s fun!  Enjoy:)))

Sunday- REST DAY! Don’t underestimate the value of having a rest day.  Unplug and unwind.  Prepare your body for the coming week and enjoy doing absolutely nothing!

2.  Food- Weekends tend do be the hardest time to stay on track.  If you haven’t heard of you have to sign up today!  Its FREE and so easy to use.  They have an app that you can use right on your phone.  It will track your calories, exercises and even scan food items to let you know if you are within your limits.  It’s a real handy tool.  Use it when you’re out at dinner.  You would be surprised at how much bigger the meal portions are at restaurants!  Some meals are 1500 calories per plate!!!  Hmmmm…and we wonder why there’s an obesity epidemic!

3. Mantra for the day: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit.”– Aristotle

This is such an awesome quote!  Our daily habits are what will bring us success.  I know that sometimes life can be a little boring, we can get sick of eating the same things or doing the same exercises but as you’re working little by little everyday you are inching your way closer to your goals.  You may not be where you want to be yet, but at least you’re not where you started!  Enjoy the journey.  Don’t get so impatient and freak out when you’re not seeing results.  Do the work daily and you will get there.

Have a beautiful day! I love you guys and I’m rooting for you:)
Keep in touch and let me know how you’re doing!  “Like” us on Facebook.

Day 17 of Clean Eating Challenge!

Day 17

I mentioned before that this is a journey for all types of people.  Some of us are trying to lose 100 pounds and for others it just might be the last nagging ten pounds.  What I’ve realized is this… It doesn’t matter what the amount is, it’s all mental!  My theory is that it’s 99% mental and 1% genetic.  You know those people that are naturally slender and can eat whatever they want?  Yeah those people!  I hate them:) I actually have to work really hard to be fit and healthy:)  It starts in the mind.  Keep your mind tough and make no excuses!!!

1.  Wednesday- Stretch and do 30 min of solid cardio and 30 minutes of upper body work!

2.  Food- Part of being successful in this program is to eat small meals throughout the day.  I eat about every three hours.  Remember to pack a snack always!  Nuts and fruit are great to keep in your purse in case of emergencies. Consider putting an emergency packet of protein bars and water in your car for those unexpected moments. Plan your day and pack your food so you are not tempted.  Remember. “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail!”

3. Mantra for the day: Don’t Be a Victim!
How do you know if you’re being a victim?  Well, it’s always someone else’s fault and you have a problem taking responsibility.  “Someone brought cupcakes to the break room!”  “My boyfriend keeps taking me to fast food restaurants.”  “My room mate, spouse, family member keeps cooking fattening food.” (insert whiny voice and pouty lips) etc…. What is the common denominator here?  YOU!  No one is forcing you to eat what other people are eating.  Stop making excuses and take responsibility for your actions.  You have to want it bad enough!  Are you ready!?  It’s safe to say that if you are making excuses in this area of your life, you may be making excuses in other areas as well.  Something to unpack and take a look at.  Your growth and victories start the day you refuse to be the victim.  You got this!!!

Have a beautiful day! I love you guys and I’m rooting for you:)

Day 16 of Clean Eating Challenge!

Day 16

It’s been a real eye opening experience for me to be on this clean eating challenge.  I am learning so much and I’m so inspired by how hard you guys are working.  Remember that we are in this together and we’re here to support each other.  We are designed to be in a community.  We are not islands and we’re not meant to do this alone.

1.  Tuesday- Stretch and do 50 min of solid cardio and strength training.

2.  Food- I’m really enjoying our new food plan this week.  Be adventurous and explore new tastes!  Keep up on your food journaling and be mindful.  Let’s focus on abundance instead of scarcity.  Its all about perspective. Instead of being focused on all the foods you CAN’T have focus on all the new foods you CAN have!!!  I am exploring so many new flavors and textures!  The best part is that it’s good for you.

3. Mantra for the day:  Get involved in Community

Don’t think that you can do it all on your own.  When you find someone that has what you want, be humble enough to ask them to help you, train you, teach you. The goal is not perfection, it’s progress.  We’ll never reach perfection but we should strive to grow everyday.  Find a group of like minded individuals who can help you get closer to your goals.  Stay connected.  Studies have shown that people who work out with other people are more likely to reach their goals and keep the weight off!  Join a gym, fitness club, dance class, running club, or if you’re more of an individual fitness buff, then join an online group and you can work out at home and still get the camaraderie and accountability of a group.

Have a beautiful day! I love you guys and I’m rooting for you:)

Day 15 of Clean Eating Challenge!

Day 15

There will be days when you will feel like, “I don’t want to do this anymore.  This is too hard.  This takes too much effort.”  In those moments, I want you to look at your goals. I want you to ask yourself, “Are these goals still important to me?”  If the answer is “YES” then stop whining and complaining and keep going.:)))  If you decide that the goal is too much for you then go ahead and quit.  You have come this far….what are you going to do???

1.  Monday- Stretch and do 30 min of solid cardio and lower body work. I expect you to push yourself hard today.  I want sweat & tears!!!  DO IT:))) Stretch your body and breathe!

2.  Food- Clean, healthy food doesn’t have to be boring.  Since I’ve been on this journey with you guys, I have discovered so many new foods that are good for you and rich in flavor.  I hope that you are enjoying it as much as I am.  Be adventurous!  Try new ethnic foods, be courageous and just go for it!  In the last couple of weeks, I have tried Indian food, Thai, Mediterranean, Vegan, and many others.  Try something new this week and tell me about it:)  Oh, and did I mention the ‘clean’ treats are AMAZING!!!!  I am getting my sweet fix and it’s in the plan:)  Woo hoo!!!

3. Mantra for the day:  Quitting is the Enemy to Success!!!
If you even ‘think’ about quitting, then you have already quit.  It’s so easy to quit.  It takes so much more character and a strong will to persevere.  Dig deep in your soul and remind yourself that you are worth fighting for.  It’s not too hard, too difficult, too painful, too (fill in the blank)…You are worth it and you deserve to live the life you were designed to have.  Be proactive about your health and wellness…It’s the only one you have:)

Have a beautiful day! I love you guys and I’m rooting for you:)
